Psalms 86: 5-7 (NKJV) For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer. And attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me.

THOUGHTS

In this passage of scripture, David honors and glorifies God; recognizing His goodness and omnipotence (all powerful nature). He realizes that no one else but God can protect, forgive, and comfort him with an unfailing everlasting love. David cries out in prayer knowing that God not only hears him, but can and will deliver him from all of  his troubles.

REFLECTIONS

As Christians or non-Christians, we have all found ourselves in a tough spot from time to time. Whether we are Christians or not, we must realize that God does hear us, answer us, and deliver us. God is merciful to all. A Christian’s deliverance should bring about stronger obedience to God’s word, deeper reverence of God, and a greater love for people. Our lives should worship God in such a way that when God delivers non-Christians, they will not say; “It was just my lucky day”, or give credit to themselves, but realize that only God gives deliverance and that the ultimate deliverance comes from acceptance of Jesus Christ. Our lives should make non-believers want to become believers!

APPLICATION

As David demonstrates, we should recognize the awesome goodness of the Lord in our daily lives. His unfailing love has saved us from eternal separation (Hell), death, and destruction because of Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross. Now we too can pray to the Lord and know He hears us. We can be confident that when we are in trouble, He will answer us, strengthen us, comfort us, and deliver us so that we may be empowered for service in His Kingdom.

CHALLENGE

Worship God daily by acknowledging his goodness and mercy. Share what God has done for you when the opportunity arises. People need to hear encouraging words. Continue to rejoice, pray, and give thanks always no matter your situation. I pray that as a Christian, you would be a positive spirit wherever you go. If you are not a Christian, I challenge you continue to watch those around you. Look for Christians who not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. I challenge you to believe in someone (not something) greater than yourself (beyond your abilities).  Jesus is real!
