Galatians 6:7-8 (NKJV) Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
THOUGHTS
In the preceding passages of scripture in Chapter 6, Paul is encouraging the Galatian church to share the burdens (hardships) of one another. In other words Paul is instructing them to take care of one another. This act of servanthood is an extension of what he instructs the Philippian church to do, in Philippians Chapter 4, concerning meditating on things that are good, noble, and honorable. We learn from Paul’s instruction to both churches that Christians should not only think positive, but demonstrate positive thinking through expressions of love toward others.
REFLECTIONS
Paul knows that sowing good seeds yield a good harvest. God is not “mocked” means that He will not be made a fool. God sees all, knows all, and will reward us according to our obedience (good seeds) or punish us according to our willful disobedience (bad seeds). Nobody gets away with anything. That is why Paul tells the Galatians not be fooled (by what you see) and to just keep on obeying God. You will reap more blessings than you will know what to do with!
APPLICATION
It may look as though people who do evil are prospering and you may ask yourself, ” What good does it do me to do good?” Remember God sees and knows all. Even when it looks like people are getting away with the most evil of deeds, no one can escape God’s judgement. We do not always see the punishment God renders, so we automatically think that those who do evil are escaping happy-go-lucky. As Paul says, “God is not mocked!…” No one can make a fool out of God, only themselves.
CHALLENGE
I challenge you not to focus on what you see others doing. Focus on doing good through obedience to the Word of God through faith in Jesus Christ. If you are not saved, I pray that you realize that you cannot be good on your own and that there is truly no good thing outside of a relationship with Jesus Christ. Christ makes the good deeds in our life worthwhile. We can do good deeds, but those good deeds alone cannot get us into heaven. I also challenge Christians to have more faith in God. Keep praying to God and obeying Him, even when it seems like those who do not obey God are prospering and God is not listening. He hears you! In due time, you will reap a great harvest if you do not give up!
The next lesson will be November 18, 2011
